Co curricular Activities |
|
For the development of athletics in OKI four coaches are involved, two of them
specialised in track and field events separately. Those in the squad are
regularly attending practices at Sugathadasa Stadium. Those excel in sports
individually and in team events annually receive comprehensive rebates on their
term fees. In the sporting sphere remarkable achievements have been made during
this year. In the Inter International Athletic Championship (ISAC), OKI reached
to the fourth place from the sixth place secured last year. Many athletes
participated at the Circuit, Zonal and District meets brought glory to the
school. Two of the athletes reached to the height of listing in the National
Rankings.

Swimming |
OKI has its own Swimming School. In the swimming championships our swimmers
secured positions and new swimmers came to limelight.

In June 2011 at the open swimming championship held many OKI swimmers grabbed
the Gold Medals. At the all island junior swimming championship two of our
swimmers secured gold medals and positions in many other events they
participated. At the all island swimming championship held at Ananda College
pool two of our swimmers displayed the potential to reach Sri Lanka rankings.

Karate |
Karate is another sporting event we have developed fast, with the outstanding
child Nathan Kushantha who has already bagged all ten brown belts before
reaching the age of 13 years. This year the Japan-Sri Lanka tied Championship
organized by the Karate wizard Titus Perera Nathan Kushanhta won the first black
belt. With the enthusiasm built two other branches other than main school
commenced practicing Karate in large numbers.

Gymnasium |
For the purpose of physical fitness the top floor of the swimming school
building is dedicated for a total gymnasium. Many children make use of this
facility and it is open to members as well. Plans are underway to modernise
gymnasium to be in par with any other recognised gymnasium so that members are
given the best value for money.

Netball
|
Netball is the game OKI is famous for. Netball the Under 15 age category our team became Circuit and Zonal Champions. Champions and Winner at the Inter International Schools encounter. This has created a legend at OKI and now girls are gearing up for basketball as well.

Netball Queen, Best Shooter and Best Defence Player titles were bagged by Minon
Kinson and Kavishka Kalainban.

Basketball |
Basketball is another game where children have shown interest in the recent
times. Under a trainer who has excelled in this game in Canada, over 75 children
of different age categories are being trained. Meanwhile a new basketball court
is presently being constructed in its own premises at OKI matching to National
Standards.

Cricket |
School has cricket teams of Under 13, 15 and 17 trained under the Island
renowned coach Mr Tyronne Mathews. In April this year the Under 17 cricketers
proceeded to Malaysia, entering into a tournament where Under 17 school cricket
teams participated. Our team became runner up in this tournament.

Badminton |
|
For the first time our Badminton team entered for the Sri Lankan Schools
competition. Although they were good enough only to rise up to quarter final
level, the enthusiasm created among badminton players was noteworthy, because
over 135 children are undergoing training at present creating future prospects
for our school. |
